The Mild Technique - Mnemonically Induced Lucid Dream
A Mnemonic device or technique is designed to help the mind remember something specific. For instance: My very entergetic mind just stopped using nanos. It is a short, quirky fun sentence to help you remember the planet names. The first letter of each word, helps you remember the plaents in our solar system in their order from the sun. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
All mnemonic devices do not involve rhymes however. In fact, an affirmation which states a specific purpose and is then repeated mutliple times to make that statement part of you, is also a mnemonic device.
Obviously, this technique requires the use of the minds ability to remember versus keeping a written list of what you need to remember. This technique was developed by Stephen LaBerge and you can find complete details of the technique in the book, "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming".
1. Set up dream recall - As you are preparing for bed, repeated affirm that you will wake up and be able to remember your dreams during each of the dream periods that night. If you normally do not wake up between dream periods, it is fine to affirm that you will remember your dreams when you awake in the morning.
2. Dream Recall - Whether you wake up between dream periods or only in the morning, make sure you try to recall as much about your dream as possible. This is a very good time to write notes in your dream journal. Don't worry about correct spelling or grammar, just get the notes on paper so you know what happened in the dream and whether you became lucid while in it.
3. If you have awaken between the dream periods, focus your intent to get back to sleep and become lucid when you enter the dream state.
4. Visualize yourself being lucid within the dream and imagine you have re-entered the dream state but this time, know that it is a lucid dream. Look around the dream world for something to give you a clue that you are in the dream state. Items not being in the right place, color different than what they should be (purple trees, orange grass). Anything that makes it obvious you are dreaming, but you now know you are lucid dreaming and should tell yourself exactly that.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 over and over again until your intention is set. When you are ready, allow yourself to fall asleep.
It is important to note, if before falling asleep, you mind starts to wander, repeat steps 3 and 4 again so that they are the last thing on your mind before falling asleep.
Note: The more times you repeat these steps the better the chances of having a lucid dream when you go to sleep. So if you have a hard time falling asleep after going through the procedures, don't worry about it. It simply means your chances of having a lucid dream are actually better because of it.
